Every year, there is an increase in the number of students who apply to the UK as their study abroad option. Logically speaking, those who apply but aren’t well-prepped are bound to be on hold. Being on hold on paper is not an issue, but for many, this hold-up is personal. It is financial, academic, and at times mental. Here are some tips and tricks to get your acceptance fair and quick.

Be consistent

One main thing that students often fall short on is consistency. What statements are in your CAS and presented documents should be well reflected in your interview. If your documents display one thing but you state something completely different, then your authenticity is questionable enough for you to be disqualified.

An interviewer is seeking competitive and knowledgeable candidates for study abroad with the hopes of helping the home country. An individual who cannot even get their facts straight will not be given the green light to study abroad.

Be Confident

Whenever you speak, a person who speaks confidently is always taken more seriously. A timid and short-cut answer will not serve you in showing your proficiency in the English language. Speak clearly and loudly. Not obnoxious but clear enough for the interviewer to understand your points. While saying that, someone who speaks too fast and too quickly may also confuse the interviewer.

Take your time, understand the question, and help the interviewer grasp your answers.

Do your research

When answering your questions, you must be well versed on the basics of your chosen University. A basic answer is not fit to impress the interviewer. They must be really convinced that you are an eligible candidate. A student who will flourish in their choices and someone who is immensely passionate. So passionate that you have done your research, understood the outcomes, and know that yes, this is what you want. Doing research entails knowing the nitty-gritty of your chosen university; why is it the best choice? How many students graduate with employment? Why is it better than staying home, and what modules does the course entail? Everything needs to be accounted for.

Provide essential documents

During the process of the interview, the main objective of asking you certain questions is to verify your answers with your legal documents and to assess your proficiency in the English language. For this, the VFS Global Centre will request you to bring some core documents. Failure to bring them might cause extra trouble, so be sure to pack them safely.  Documents that you need to bring are a Valid Passport, a Visa Application Form, an Appointment Confirmation, a Visa Fee Receipt,  Passport-sized Photographs, and Biometric Information.

Be well prepared for “Why UK?”

One point where many students report falling short is giving a well-planned, detailed, and comparative answer to the question “Why UK?” As an interviewer, the main question that needs to be answered well is this, because there are many other countries in the option, so what is the point of you choosing the UK specifically? What makes this an option that drives you? Is choosing the UK a haphazard choice, or did you plan well? Have you understood what choosing the UK entails? What makes it a better choice than other countries?

These are some tips that could better your interview, maybe not vastly, but enough to make a difference. Being a student in the UK means you are planning to study and prioritize student life more than work or making a living there. Don’t lie if you do plan on working, but be sure to let the interviewer know that you acknowledge your working rights and restrictions as a student.
